COPD Therapy

Stem Cell Therapy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Stem Cell Therapy for COPD

About Respiratory Diseases

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is an obstructive lung disease that causes different symptoms and problems in the body. The most common treatment options for the disease are medications, exercises, and therapies. However, all of these treatments do not guarantee the prevention of recurrent episodes of the disease. Stem Cell Therapy is the most effective alternative for the other treatment option.

  • COPD is the chronic inflammation of the lungs that is caused due to obstruction of airflow through the lungs. Two other conditions which contribute to COPD are chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Both of these conditions tend to occur simultaneously and fluctuate in terms of their severity in all patients with COPD. Chronic bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes, which tend to carry air through (to and from) the lungs (alveoli). Emphysema is another condition that causes damage or narrowing of the small air passages or bronchioles in the lungs as a result of gases, smoke, and irritants.

  • The most common causes of COPD are:

    • Tobacco smoking

    • Fumes coming from the cooking or heating in homes that are poorly ventilated

    • Family history of lung diseases

    • Loss of elasticity and over-expansion of the air sacs and bronchial tubes

    • Emphysema – the destruction of elastic fibers and fragile walls of the lungs

    • Chronic bronchitis – inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes which produce increased mucus leading to more blockage of tubes

  • The most common risk factors for COPD are:

    • Genetic history – alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency is the main reason for COPD

    • Exposure to chemicals and dust – long-term chemical fumes and dust exposure can irritate the lung lining

    • Tobacco smoke – long-term cigarette smoking

    • Asthma – a chronic disease of the airways which can lead to COPD. A combination of smoking and asthma can increase the risk of COPD

The Treatment Journey

  • The most common strategies for COPD treatment are:

    • Cessation of smoking

    • Bronchodilator (short-acting) medications as Levalbuterol, Albuterol, and Ipratropium

    • Long-acting bronchodilator medications as Umeclidinium, Indacaterol, Aclidinium, Formoterol, Arformoterol, Salmeterol, and Tiotropium

    • Steroids as Budesonide and fluticasone

    • Combination inhalers as vilanterol and fluticasone, vilanterol, umeclidinium, and fluticasone, budesonide and formoterol, fluticasone and salmeterol

    • Oral steroids, Phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors, theophylline, and antibiotics

    • Lung therapies as oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation program

    • In-home ventilation therapy (non-invasive)

  • Stem Cells are the natural repair process of your body parts, and they are present in our fat cells, bone marrow cells, we use Mesenchymal Stem Cells from donor cord blood. If you place the SCs over the area of damage, then these cells can lead to the activation of new and healthy cells. This healing process is what our body needs. Stem Cell Therapy helps boost body repair mechanisms and introduces the new Stem Cells.

  • Stem Cells Therapy or Mesenchymal Stem Cells replace the lung tissues and cells in the body. This intervention program can help in combating the damages due to chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

How is the treatment at The Renue Medical Centre different?

Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) at The Renue Medical Centre is a holistic approach to treating Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Your Renue Journey does not end after your last day of SCT. We follow up with you to assert your progress since the treatment of COPD with Stem Cells consists of four phases:

  1. Pre-treatment: Clinical evaluation, lab test results, and other diagnostic procedures. You will take our Renue Epigenetic Test powered by TruDiagnostics that will assert your biological age and other important health markers. Your TruDiagnostics test is part of The Renue Difference. It provides your doctor with critical information about your health and your true age (biological vs chronological).

After the epigenetic test and we have received all your medical records, your Patient Advisor will assist you in planning your travel to Puerto Vallarta.

  2. Treatment day: The treatment starts with taking a specific amount of blood through apheresis. After taking the Stem Cells, the rest of the blood is returned to the donor.

  3. 30, 60 & 90 days post-treatment follow-up: COPD symptoms clinical evaluation, flare-up frequency, and lab test results.

  4. Six months post-treatment: COPD symptoms clinical evaluation, flare-up frequency, lab test results, X-ray report, and review of the diagnostic criteria.

  • Completely heal the wounds and granulation of the skin

  • Complete epithelialization of the wounded or damaged skin

  • Less need for invasive and surgical procedures for wounds restoration

  • Mobilize the stem cells recently administered inside the body

  • Reduce the events of inflammation, Inflammatory lesions, and swelling associated with the disease

  • Alleviation of the painful symptoms and improvement of life quality in patients

Lessen the need for drug therapy in combination with the Stem Cell Therapy

SCT to live a better life: Benefits and outcomes

The effectiveness of Stem Cell Treatment can improve all your symptoms, causing a considerable impact on your quality of life and daily activities.

As part of The Renue Difference, you will receive three Hyperbaric Chamber sessions that greatly improve SCT efficacy and stimulate the body cells to combat Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. These sessions comprise three days: one day before treatment, after treatment, and on the day of treatment.

According to results, clinical outcomes, and pre-and post-treatment observations, SCT has been shown to help

  • Reduce Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease progression

  • Speed up tissue repair

  • Regrow and repair tissues after six months

After the SCT procedure, an MRI test depicts the further need for the treatment at a specific body site.

Talk to our Patient Advisor to know more about SCT at The Renue Medical Centre.

Expected results and prognosis:

The most expected prognosis of the treatment is improved life quality, easy breathing, fewer exacerbations, and more stability in the patient’s condition. Moreover, Stem Cell Therapy can also show the results within the initial three months of the disease.

FAQ’s

  • Generally, Stem Cell Therapy has a satisfactory safety profile, good prognosis, and effectiveness.

The most frequent or common risk factors of SCT can be:

    • Allergic reactions

    • Bleeding from the site of injection

    • Fever

    • Painful injection area /site

    • Lethargy and fatigue

  • Pre-treatment education can help with awareness of slight side effects of the therapy. Bleeding and swelling of the injured site is manageable via proper technique. Stem Cell Therapy is a new and promising method of treating Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It has the potential to be more effective than previous methods and also carries less risk. At present, stem cell technology is still in the developmental stage, but rapid developments and advances indicate its potential uses in direct treatments of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

The benefits and effects of Stem Cell Therapy depend on several factors: the patient's health condition, underlying issues, lifestyle, and others.

To assess your expected results, we would like to know more about you.

A medical advisor will talk to you about your diagnosis and treatment options and collect information for the attending physician; they can answer all your initial questions:

  • Will the therapy work for my case?
